Nitido is a free extension for people with visual impairments. It fixes the contrast of every text, enlarges writing and reduces glare, without wrecking the site’s colours.

What it does

  • Measured contrast

    Calculates the real contrast of every text and fixes only those that are too light. A blue link stays blue, just more readable.

  • Bigger, bolder text

    Minimum size, weight, spacing and the Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface, designed for people with visual impairments.

  • Less glare

    Softens white into a warm grey, or turns the site into light or dark backgrounds.

  • Reading lens

    Shows the sentence under the mouse in large yellow-on-black text. Reads image alt text too.

  • Line guide

    A ruler or a mask that follows the mouse, so you never lose your place.

  • Clear navigation

    Underlined links, a clearly highlighted active element, a large pointer, stopped animations.

How to use

  1. Install Nitido

    One click from the Firefox add-ons page.

  2. Pick a level

    Click the Nitido icon and choose Mild, Medium or Strong.

  3. Fine-tune

    Change any setting whenever you like, even for a single site.
